Cabinet Crisis in Lebanon Still Continues-December 24, 2018

December 26, 2018

The crisis in Lebaon continues, despite efforts to establish a cabinet since May 2018. It took two and a half years for the country to elect its current president, nine years to hold parliamentary elections and 12 years to pass a budget. Hezbollah and the its allies won half of the parliament from the general elections. Iran and Saudi Arabia are also trying to steer their influence on local politics effectively. On the other hand economic issues and refugee crises in Lebanon still dominates political discourse, as well. Acoording to the Economist “the risk is that the bickering over cabinet seats continues into 2019, and that the economy can collapse before a government can be formed.”
